What We Believe

We believe that the Bible is the only inspired word of God to guide all believers, and we hold to its traditional interpretation. We believe that the Bible must shape a Christian mindset and behaviour, not the surrounding culture. We are a part of the Canadian Baptist Family of Churches. Knowing, Being, and Doing

Knowing

God revealed Himself throughout history in many ways, and His ultimate revelation to humanity is found in His Son, Jesus of Nazareth (Hebrews 1:1-2). He shares God the Father's divinity, and he came to receive the penalty for the world’s sin (fulfilling God’s justice) and was resurrected so that everyone who believes in him may enjoy eternal life with Him (John 3:16-18; 1 John 4:9). Knowing Jesus is the first step to entering into a relationship with God (John 8:31-32).

Being

Those who know God, through Jesus, receive the Holy Spirit, who transforms that person into Christlikeness. He acts in every aspect of a person’s life to bring Jesus' holiness to them. The more someone experiences God, the more they are transformed by Him, according to God’s purpose (Romans 12:1-2; Hebrews 12:1-2).

Doing

Following the internal transformation provided by God the Father through faith in Jesus and guided by the Holy Spirit, a person’s actions become aligned with God’s will. Jesus’ teachings and command to share about His life and resurrection, as well as all the deeds that Jesus did, can be replicated by His followers through the Holy Spirit who lives in them (1 Cor 4:16; 11:1, John 14:12-13).

Church

The church, the community of Christians, is composed of all people who are in a lifelong process of knowing Jesus, being transformed by the Holy Spirit, and working in His Kingdom until He returns. We are imperfect people who pray, study the Bible, praise God, proclaim Jesus, and support one another.

Good News Church

Good News Church is one church family speaking two languages —English and Portuguese—worshipping and serving together. Planted in the mid-1980s as a Portuguese-speaking church, it has grown into a bilingual community united in mission and faith.

Worship

We believe worship is a way of life (Rom 12:1) and also a powerful way we gather to connect with God through music. In 1 Samuel, David’s music brought peace to Saul, showing how worship can minister to the soul. Thus, we place a high value on worship and invite anyone who has any giftings in this area to serve with our team.

  Bible Study 

Bible Study

Thursday's 7:00 p.m.

Join us each week for Bible Study and Prayer—Thursdays at 7:00 pm in English and Wednesdays at 7:00 pm in Portuguese. These gatherings are a meaningful time to learn God’s Word, pray together, and grow in community.

  Women's Ministry 

Women's Ministry

Monthly

Once a month, the church’s women gather on Saturday morning to have a time of praise, fellowship, and reflection on Scripture to foster their spiritual growth. The gatherings are an excellent opportunity to build strong relationships and learn biblical tools to address any woman's daily challenges.

Our Pastor

Pastor Renan

Pastor Renan grew up in a Christian home in Rio de Janeiro and was active in his church from an early age. He worked as a family physician and cardiologist before sensing God’s call to full-time ministry. After moving to Canada, he completed his MDiv at McMaster Divinity College and began serving as Pastor of Portuguese Ministries at Good News Church in May 2022. Renan is married to Jackie, and they have two children, Daniel and Elisa. He enjoys playing piano, guitar, and spending time with his kids.
